Week Eight of the Quest: Taqueria El Crucero

Taqueria El Crucero

In week eight of the quest to find Waco's best burrito, we make our way to Taqueria El Crucero. The restaurant is a tiny building located on N Robinson Drive (Don't blink, you might miss it). El Crucero is a few minutes from campus and just a couple of blocks off of the the circle.

Joining me this week in the search for burrito excellence is my reliable friend, Sydney!

Upon entering the small establishment the front counter is immediately to our right. We quickly scanned the menu and placed our orders. After ordering, we took a seat in the small dining area and snacked on our order of chips and queso as we waited. Within a few minutes the waitress made her way toward our table with our burritos in hand.

Being my first meal of the day, I rapidly unwrapped the aluminum foil surrounding my burrito. I take one bite and the delicious flavors of the ground beef, refried beans, potatoes and cheese fill my mouth. The burrito is delicious with the only downfall being that it is excessively greasy. Making for an even better taste, Taqueria El Crucero offers two salsa types, green and red. Both salsas are very unique with the green being spicy and the red being mild.

Taqueria El Crucero is a strong competitor and offers a quality burrito. I strongly recommend the restaurant to fellow burrito lovers looking for a quick bite to eat near campus. However, despite my recommendation, Taqueria El Crucero is not the new crown holder. While the burrito is wonderful it is still surpassed by both Lolita's and Torchy's.
